2014.11.02 – Home Again!

I slept well and loved the extra hour of rest due to daylight saving time even though I think it’s the dumbest thing ever and should be done away with. The lack of daylight saving time is the only good thing about Arizona! Ok, maybe that’s not fair. Arizona also has many beautiful highways and a pretty decent speed limit, both of which help you to escape more quickly.

Aaaaanyway, we checked out of the hotel and headed out to look for breakfast. Andrew spotted Carl and invited him to join us. We found a bagel and coffee shop not too far away and headed there. We got our breakfast and sufficient amounts of caffeine and then sat and had a nice talk while we started our morning.

We headed over to the conference since it was about to begin, checked in and took our seats. It wasn’t long before I got a message from Jennifer saying she was ready to work on my cover letter so I grabbed my tea and laptop and found her. I couldn’t believe she was willing to help me but I sure wasn’t going to turn her down!

She started by asking me some questions and I also showed her my resume. I had a really difficult time trying to talk about me being good at anything. It just felt so weird. I’m new and don’t really know much of anything so I can’t really say I’m great at this or great at that. Jennifer gave up on asking me to do that and read over my resume. I handed her my laptop and she started typing away. The next thing I know I’m reading this awesome sounding letter! It wasn’t full of boast or anything. It just talked about my strengths and talked about my excitement to be a part of the internship. I hope I can learn something from this.

It was lunch time before we knew it so I ventured off to grab our lunches as well as Andrew’s. There were our happy boxes with our names on them! Two vegan and one gluten free. I was confident they would be correct today because the kitchen manager was really unhappy about the mistakes yesterday. But of course they were wrong again. The first thing I saw in mine was a bag of Doritos just like yesterday and Jennifer had regular bread. Off to the kitchen we went and just like yesterday the kitchen manager was mad and they fixed it but really I don’t think they actually cared.

Andrew and I listened to a few more talks and then a big group photo was taken. It was about time for us to hit the road though so we packed up our stuff and headed out. The drive to the airport was uneventful as was returning the rental and finding our way to security. There was practically nobody in line which was really nice and since we were traveling light we’d be through in no time!

I waited for my bag and noticed they set it aside. Hmmm ok. They of course set Andrew’s aside as well but they always do. They started searching mine and I told them it was just my multi-tool. It has scissors but it’s totally TSA compliant (don’t even get me started on the stupid, ridiculous, waste of time and money TSA) so I wasn’t worried and we were plenty early so search away! I told the guy where it was so he wouldn’t have to take every single thing out of my bag and he found it pretty quickly. He asked if I wanted to throw it away and I told him it was legal to have. He then opened up a knife. Huh. I stared at it trying really hard to see scissors but it was still a blade. Huh. Apparently I had grabbed the wrong Leatherman. Oops! Well, I made several trips with it before anyone finally figured it out. It was pretty inexpensive so I let them keep it and we were on our way.

We sat in the terminal and Andrew read his book while I caught up on my blog. It was quiet for a while and then more and more people started to show up so I kept getting distracted. I love watching people so I did a lot of that. Finally it was time for our flight. The plane was fairly empty and we had our own row. I worked on my blog, ( It’s really long but hey, I was stuck on a plane. Skim!) read my book for a while and in no time we were landing. Wayne was there to get us and we were happy to be home! Hopefully we can just stay here for a while 🙂

Today I learned about a creepy cult I don’t even want to mention by name for fear of inadvertently promoting it. Super creepy though!
