2014.08.31 – Always Beautiful in North Portland

Andrew and I took a nice walk to New Seasons to get a few things. They just remodeled our Arbor Lodge store so they were having a party. Stumptown was on hand giving out their cold brewed coffee and the store had delicious banana cake. They even had a vegan one! It was really good. It’s so nice walking around our neighborhood. I see so many new things each time even if walking the same route.

We walked back home past a Mexican Restaurant that we have driven past countless times but decided that it was about lunchtime so we may as well give it a try. I got potato taquitos and Andrew got a vegan burrito. We both thought the food was pretty good. We wandered home past a yard sale but didn’t find anything we had to have. We got home and had to run right back out for an insulated growler, a refill of cold brew coffee and some of my most favorite tea at the moment, the NW Earl Grey at Tea Chai Té. It is a crazy strong Earl Grey and I just love it. The stronger the better. I could walk around with my nose stuck in the canister all day but that would just be weird.

When we got back I had some sourdough all risen and ready to bake. I’m still struggling to get perfect loaves out of this new oven in the temporary kitchen but they were not too bad this time. Once they were out, Wayne sliced up half a loaf and I made sandwiches to take to the Movie in the Park. It was at our neighborhood park, Overlook. I gave the other half of the loaf to Alice and Jason and there is another whole loaf for whatever. It makes great French Toast if we don’t eat it right away. The movie was lots of fun. We met our friend Jo and her son Joe down there and got to spend some time with them. Joe was dressed up as Indiana Jones for a costume contest they had before the movie. He looked awesome and he won a pizza party at Pinky’s Pizza down the street.

Today I learned that Oregon was the very first state to recognize Labor Day as a holiday.
